In the winter of 2022, 13 years after the first release of the previous “Avatar,” the long-awaited sequel will be released to the public. “Avatar” was produced, written, and directed by James Cameron, and at the time of its release, it was the number one movie of all time worldwide, grossing $2.847 billion.

“Avatar: The Way of Water”, the second film of the five-part series, was released in the United States on December 16, 2022.

According to Cameron, the “Avatar” series is envisioned as a five-part series. So, there is a possibility that foreshadowing regarding the sequel will be scattered throughout the film.

The first movie, “The Avatar,” ended with the RDA (Resources Development Administration) being defeated by both Na’vi forces and Pandoran wildlife, seemingly controlled by Eywa itself. With the exceptions of Jake Sully (played by Sam Worthington), Norm Spellman (played by Joel David Moore), and a select few others, all humans are sent back to Earth. In the final scene, Jake lets go of his human body and permanently transfers his conscience into his avatar.

The production of the sequel was announced in 2010, the year after “Avatar” was released. It was originally scheduled to be released in 2014 but was repeatedly postponed.

Then, in September 2017, it was reported that four sequels had begun filming at the same time. And at one point, the United States release date for “Avatar 2” was set for December 18, 2020. However, because of the COVID, the final release date was set for December 16, 2022.

Steve Asbell, chairman of 20th Century Studios, commented, “The film will be released on schedule without further postponement.” For now, it is a relief that the second film has been released.

Jake Sully, a former marine and an Earthling, is married to Neytiri, an indigenous Na’vi woman. This film focuses on the children born between the two and the story of the Sully family as it unfolds.

Jake, who has become fully Na’vi instead of an Earthling, lives a happy life with his partner Neytiri and their children. One day, however, they are forced to leave their homeland of Pandora. The family moves to the sea in search of a haven. There they take shelter under the protection of a sea tribe. The family encounters new creatures such as the sailors, crocodiles, swordfish, and butterflies.

Sigourney Weaver, who supposedly died in the previous film, and the villain Stephen Lang also appear in the film, with Sigourney Weaver’s role being a completely new character. Those peaceful days are coming to an end as the human invasion starts in their paradise.

Can the tribes work together to protect their planet from the earthlings?

This film is directed by James Cameron, who is dedicated to creating the best “visual experience” that mankind has ever experienced. The film emotionally depicts the beautiful ocean, the creatures that live there, the fierce battle between humans and the indigenous Na’vi who are planning to invade the mysterious planet Pandora, and the emotional drama with the most beautiful images in the history of mankind.

“Avatar: The Way of Water.” the sequel to “Avatar,” ran 3 hours and 12 minutes, which is very long compared to the first films (but shorter than Titanic’s 3 hours and 14 minutes, also directed by Cameron), but it flew by.

James Cameron, who loves the ocean so much that he even goes on marine expeditions himself, has created the best possible world. And just looking at nature on Pandora is a joy.

Especially the scenes where Kiri playing with glowing fish in the sea and swimming with the giant whale-like creature were outstanding.

Since more than a decade has passed since the previous story, the technology of the human race (RDA) has developed. Their battle capabilities have been increased, and the battle scenes are not to be missed.

“Avatar” had become a wonderful film from detailed characters and story settings.

In this film, Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) and Neytiri (Zoe Saldana), a Na’vi, have a large family with children Neteyam (Jamie Flatters), Lo’ak (Britain Dalton), and Tuk (Trinity Jo-Li Bliss), as well as an adopted child named Kiri (Sigourney Weaver) and a human boy named Spider (Jack Champion).

“Avatar 2: Way of Water” is about Sally and Neytiri’s struggle to protect their family. If the previous “Avatar” was a love story, this film is a family story.

I strongly believe that through this film, we can learn the importance of family love.

As I mentioned earlier, I was impressed not only by the beauty of the film’s visuals but also by the fact that the story focused more on “family” than I had expected.

The famous line “I see you,” which was the memorable phrase that Jake and Neytiri used to exchange their feelings in the previous film, can also be heard in this film. It will remind us of the emotional scene once again.

First, the story is set 10 years after the previous film, but we get to understand their story very quickly.

Sully and Neytiri have formed a family with four children. The family was portrayed as a happy family living as the leaders of the Omaticaya tribe of Na’vi, and later in the film, they have to overcome many difficulties.

The theme of the family unit itself is nothing new, but the film was impressive in the way it questions the significance of the bloodless family and the blood ties that exist between them while welcoming an adopted child. In particular, the struggle of Quaritch’s son, Spider, is a good addition to the story, which highlights the complexity of this family drama that cannot be simply put away as a pure story.

According to producer Jon Landau, the biggest technical challenge in building such a story was not the representation of water but the improvement of facial capture techniques.

The previous film lacked subtle expressions of the human face, and one could be led to believe that the blue-skinned alien was used as a shield to avoid a descent into the uncanny valley. When Neytiri is furious at Jake for betraying her, the wrinkles on Zoe Saldana’s face do not reflect her anger, and she seems to be wearing a “mask” that is somehow unnatural.

This work appears to have overcome all the problems of conventional facial capture. The very subtle movements of facial muscles and the moment-to-moment changes in wrinkles are reflected exactly as they are, with the utmost authenticity and nuance. The improved technique allowed for a deeper understanding of the family’s relationship.

The film introduces new teenage characters who were not in the previous film, and they will grow through the love of their family.

“I hope the younger generation, who were too young to see the last film, will see it. I hope they will be moved by this story, which is not only inspiring but also makes them think about their outlook on life.

Saldana addressed the younger generation, who have not had the visual experience of the previous film, with passion.

It’s completely different from watching it on a smartphone. And with the teenage characters in this film, it’s a story that the younger generation can relate to, even if they’re watching Avatar for the first time. And it will make people think about their own lives.

Today I have introduced James Cameron’s film “Avatar: The Way of Water.” The five parts of the “Avatar” films are already planned and will be released in the U.S.

The third film is scheduled to be released on December 20, 2024, the fourth on December 18, 2026, and the fifth on December 22, 2028.

The film, which was released on December 16, 2022, in the United States, has been delayed due to the pandemic that has been spreading around the world. But Director James Cameron told American Entertainment Weekly and other media that he has already finished shooting 95% of the next film. So, it is assumed that the filming of the next film has already been completed by now.

I am looking forward to its release.

The pandemic has threatened the daily lives of people around the world. Once again, through this film, I was able to realize that the bonds of family that I would have felt were truly important, even though they were invisible to the eye. I hope you will enjoy the movie as well.
